What is I-140 premium processing?

Understanding Premium Processing for Visas

In some cases applicants want their visa as soon as possible, and they’d like to get their green card as soon as feasible. Unfortunately, there are some circumstances where the process cannot be expedited, but there are some visa categories that allow for expedited processing.

What is this expedited process? It is commonly referred to as premium processing, and it is available for a variety of visa categories.

What is Premium Processing?

Premium processing is an expedited processing service offered by USCIS for certain visa categories. It allows you to receive a response, either an approval or denial, within a specified timeframe.

There’s some cases where we really can’t speed up the process, but in certain categories there are some visa categories that allow for expedited processing.

Where is Premium Processing Available?

Premium processing is only available for petitions and applications filed with USCIS within the United States. It is not available for visa applications processed at US consulates abroad.

Which Visa Categories are Eligible for Premium Processing?

Premium processing is available for a variety of non-immigrant and immigrant visa categories, including H-1B, L-1, O-1, EB-1A, EB-1C, and NIW visas. The specific processing timeframe varies depending on the visa category.

How Much Does Premium Processing Cost?

The current fee for premium processing is $2,500, regardless of the visa category.

Processing Times for Premium Processing

Historically, premium processing has been associated with a 15-day processing timeframe. However, for certain newer categories, such as NIW and EB-1c visas, the processing time for premium processing is 45 days.
