Certified TEA locations for EB-5 investments
Foreign nationals who are planning to settle in the U.S. through the EB-5 Visa program should understand that the success of their applications and investments may hinge on their target locations being classified by federal or state governments as “Targeted Employment Areas,” or TEAs.
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USIS) will deem a location a TEA if it meets one of two critera: first, the area could either be classified as rural; second, the area has an unemployment rate that exceeds the U.S. average by 150 percent.
While many EB-5 applicants will need to check with federal or state governments in order to determine TEA status, the following are states which provide a list of areas that meet either of the two requirements:
- California
- Colorado
- Connecticut
- Florida
- Georgia
- Idaho
- Illinois
- Indiana
- Kansas
- Michigan
- New Jersey
- New York
- North Carolina
- Ohio
- South Carolina
- Utah
- Virginia
- Washington
- Wisconsin
